FROM FOOT PATHS TO HIGHWAYS

In Psalm 119:9, David asked, “How shall a young man cleanse his way?”

The term “way”used here means “a well-worn path”. It is a picture of a footpath cutting across the yard, wearing a path across the lawn from constant use.

David answered his own question by stating that the way to break any habit begins by regularly exposing our hearts to the word of God, “By taking heed to the word of God.” This is replacing one habit with another habit.

Solomon wrote about another way, referring to the highway of doing the right thing honestly from the heart:

“The highway of the upright is to depart from evil; He who keeps his way preserves his soul.”(Proverbs 16:17)

The Message Translation

renders this as: “The road of right living bypasses evil; watch your step and save your life.”

This highway of doing the right thing lead us out of harm’s way; If we stay on it, it will save our soul a lot of distress.

Let’s begin the road to recovery and healing by asking the Lord to take us from a footpath to His highway. Amen!
